Al-Afasy's full name is Shaikh Mishary Rashid Ghareeb Mohammed Rashid Al-Afasy is a Kuwaiti, hafiz and priest of Kuwaiti nationality. Al-Afasy is widely known for his recitation of the Koran and the nasyid he chants. One very popular nasyid called Qolbi Ashghiir (My Small Heart). Al-Afasy often appears in the Koran recitation program on television in the Middle East region of America and Europe.

Mishary Al Afasy is recognized for its beautiful voice and unique recitation of the Quran. Many reciters came to imitate their reading style.

He studied Quran at the College of the Holy Quran at the Islamic University of Madinah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). He memorized the entire Quran in two years 1992-1994 and then studied specializing in ten recitation of the Qur'an. He has read the Quran for Sheikh Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Zaiat, Sheikh Ibrahim Ali Shahata Al-Samanodei, and Sheikh Radwan Abdurarea. He impressed a number of large reciters of the Quran with his reading.

Mishary Al Afasy is the Imam of the Grand Mosque (Kuwait), and every Ramadan he leads the Taraweh Prayer in this Mosque. He very often leads Tarawih prayers in the UAE and other neighboring countries in the Gulf.

In 2007, he visited two mosques in the United States: the Irvine Islamic Center (ICOI) in California and the Detroit Islamic Center (ICD) in Michigan.
