NARRATIVE 

Explanation 

Social Function of narrative is To amuse, entertain and to deal with actual or various experience in different ways; Narratives deal with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point of some kind. which in turn finds 2 resolution.

Generic Structure 
• Orientation: sees the scene and introduces the participants.
• Evaluation: a stepping back to evaluate the plight.
• Complication: a crisis arises.
• Resolution: the crisis is resolved, for better or for worse.
• Re-orientation: (optional).
• Coda (optional)

Significant Lexicogrammatical Features :
• Focus on specific and usually individualized Participants.
• Use of Material Processes (and in the text Behaviour and Verbal Processes).
• Use of Retational Processes and Mental Processes.
• Use of temporal conjunctions and temporal Circumstances.
• Use of past tense


General Characteristics

Communicative purpose of the text

Comfort the listener or reader (related to real experiences, delusions or complicated events that lead to a crisis, which ultimately find a solution).

Text Structure
• Introduction of characters, time, and place;
• Development of conflicts;
• Conflict resolution;
• Koda changes that occur in the characters and lessons that can be learned from the story

Linguistic characteristics

• certain nouns as pronouns for people, animals and certain objects in the story, for example, stepsisters, housework, etc.
• time connectives and conjunctions to sort events, for example then, before that, soon, etc.
• adverb and adverbial phrases to show the location of events, for example here, in the mountain, happily ever after, etc.
• action verbs in past tense; stayed, climbed, etc.
• saying verbs that mark words like: said, told. promised, and thinking verb that marks the thoughts, perceptions or feelings of the characters in the story, for example thought. understood, felt, etc.
